About Alex

Alex was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University, majoring in Molecular Biology with a minor in Computer Science. During his junior year, he worked with Dr. Ramachandran of the Gitai Lab to study surface adherence genes/proteins in the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. For his senior thesis, he computationally analyzed the genetics of Staphylococcus aureus colonizing eczematic lesions, including effects on the immune system and skin microbiome. As a research assistant in the Jost Lab, he is very excited to make new discoveries about the gut microbiome and how it intersects with human health.

Outside of microbiology research, Alex enjoys cooking delicious vegan food, exploring Minecraft worlds with his friends, and playing strategy board games.
